Raised Beds

Raised flower beds with sleepers

Cutting Hedge London Landscaping can design your garden with raised boarders and complicated heights using hard or soft wood sleepers. Wooden sleepers add a warm rustic feeling, raised boarders and seated areas along the garden. Untreated green oak sleepers are by far the best wood to use, as you will get many years out of them.

Cutting sleepers can always be a challenge, a good sharp circular saw or chainsaw will make it easy work. Long Landscaping screws are used to fix them together.

It is difficult to treat oak sleepers organically as they are a very dense type of wood; however if you want to preserve the appearance of the wood, sanding can be done with a finish of 1 part spirit to 1 part linseed oil. The more toxic approach is to paint it with creosote liquid; this approach is toxic and not advised in raised boarders as it contaminates the soil.
